The 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium brings together for the first time GECAMB/Portuguese CSEAR (Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research, UK) from the Centre of Applied Research in Management and Economics (CARME) of the Polytechnic of Leiria, and the Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium, from the Grudis Accounting Research Network. This unique event will be organized by the School of Public Management, Communication and Tourism of Bragança Polytechnic University (EsACT-IPB), Mirandela, from the 23rd to 25th January 2025.
The 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium is an opportunity for academics, doctoral students and others interested in accounting research to present and discuss their research on the social and environmental aspects of accounting theory and practice as well as other accounting-related topics (e.g., financial accounting, management accounting, accounting history, public sector accounting, accounting education).
The 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium will feature two keynote speakers as follows.
Day 1: Professor Carlos Larinaga
Carlos Larrinaga is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Burgos, Spain. He is associated with the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) at the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
Carlos has a distinguished academic career. His research career, initiated in the early 90s, focused on the interplay between accounting and the natural environment, a focus that persists to this day. His work emphasizes the role of companies in sustainable development and the importance of social and environmental reporting.
Carlos has published extensively in interdisciplinary accounting journals and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including as an Associate Editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting. His notable publications appear in top journals such as Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Journal of Business Ethics, the European Accounting Review, among others.
Carlos has served on the Board of the European Accounting Association.
Day 3: Professor Christopher Koch
Christopher Koch is the Chair of Corporate Governance and Auditing at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), a position he has held since 2013. He completed his studies (2000-2003), doctorate (2003-2008) and habilitation (2008-2013) at the University of Mannheim and has had a distinguished academic career.
Christopher has an impressive number of publications to his name in leading journals, with many contributions to our understanding of issues relating to audit quality, corporate governance, and the effects of regulatory changes on auditors and financial reporting. His work focuses on auditing and explores the impact of auditor-client relationships, the structure of audit teams, and the implications of audit firm compensation policies. Beyond auditing, he has also investigated corporate sustainability issues, the role of local proxy advisors, and the impact of the financial crisis on organizational reputation. Koch’s publications appear in high-impact journals like The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Review of Accounting Studies, and the European Accounting Review, among others.
Christopher is an Associate Editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory(since 2023) and European Accounting Review (since 2020) and former Associate Editor of the journal Behavioral Research in Accounting(2017-2020). He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Auditing Research Network (EARNet) and of the European Network for Experimental Accounting Research (ENEAR).
In addition to chairing Corporate Governance and Auditing at JGU, Christopher also teaches in various programs at the Mannheim Business School, covering subjects such as Corporate Governance, Financial Accounting, and Investment Valuation. Christopher has received a teaching award from the Mannheim Business School (2021) and the ACA Prize of the University of St. Gallen in the tradition of the Dr. Kausch Prize for outstanding audit research (2024).
