36th International Congress on Social and Environmental Accounting Research (8-11 June 2026)

HOST: Tampere University, CSEAR Location: Tampere University

We are excited to announce that the 36th International Congress on Social and Environmental Accounting Research will be hosted at Tampere University, Finland, 9-11 June 2026.

Pre-conference events take place on 8 June 2026:
· 13th CSEAR Emerging Scholars Colloquium (ESC)
· 11th CSEAR Education Community of Practice (ECoP)

This conference at Tampere University is a gathering of academics, practitioners and
researchers who focus on the teaching, research, theory, and practice of social,
environmental and sustainability accounting and reporting. The spirit of the conference is interdisciplinary and so submissions are also invited from perspectives beyond accounting. The CSEAR conference provides a forum for scholarly work in various stages of
development and explicitly encourages open discussion as well as close collegiality.

Types of submissions and participation possibilities

Two types of submissions are encouraged this year: (1) full papers and (2) work in progress. Authors submitting full papers are expected to provide a complete manuscript by the submission deadline, whereas authors submitting a work in progress are invited to submit a 250-word abstract. Please note that abstracts will be made available to all delegates prior to the conference. Submissions will be subject to review.

Online presentations: The conference provides the possibility for online presentation. Online presentations will run as parallel sessions of the conference, will be made on a virtual platform and will be open to paid CSEAR members (at the time of the conference).

NOTES on submission and registration

  • Submission deadline & feedback: The submission deadline is 31 January 2026 and paper acceptance will be notified by 28 February 2026.
  • Submission rules:
    • Note that given the limited space for presentation slots, an author can submit and present only one paper. However, a presenter can always be a non-presenting co-author on additional papers.
    • Research submitted to the Emerging Scholars Colloquium cannot be submitted to
the main conference. Emerging Scholars wishing to present at the main conference must submit work that is substantively different to that which is presented at the Emerging Scholars Colloquium.
  • Registration: We anticipate heightened demand for places and urge early registration. The conference website will soon provide charges and full details of how to register at: https://events.tuni.fi/csear2026. Registration will open in January 2026.

Best paper award

All full paper submissions will be eligible for the best paper recognition, which will be
awarded through a blind review conducted by an ad hoc committee.

Emerging Scholars Colloquium (8 June, 2026)

The 36th CSEAR International Congress will feature the 13th CSEAR Emerging Scholars Colloquium. The colloquium aims to introduce emerging scholars to the social and environmental accounting research community, and providing them an opportunity to present and discuss their research projects alongside a cohort of distinguished international faculty.

Interested emerging scholars wishing to participate in this event are invited to apply by submitting ONE single Word file including:

  • a description* of the research project (maximum 2,000 words). It should include the title of the project and a summary of the research question, the theoretical and methodological framework(s) utilized or considered, the expected contribution, the potential implications from the research, the discussion of the results to date, and any challenges encountered. It should also include the list of bibliographical references (but will not be tallied towards the maximum word count);
  • a one-page curriculum vitae, including name, e-mail address, institutional affiliation, research interests, PhD supervisor (if applicable) and years in the doctoral program to date (if applicable).

* We prefer to have an extended abstract or proposal but will accept applications with a proposal/simple abstract with the expectation a more developed paper be submitted prior to the conference. This will allow for more meaningful feedback from our faculty.

Education Community of Practice workshop (8 June, 2026)

The CSEAR Education Community of Practice (ECoP) will host an in-person workshop before the conference. Workshop attendees will hear from leading educators and have a chance to try out different activities as well as share experiences from their own work. Anyone wishing to join the workshop will be required to register for this event as well as the conference.
