TAKING THE LONG VIEW ON RESPONSIBILITY SCHOLARSHIP
This year, the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business’s Annual Symposium will consist of an in-person workshop to explore the ‘long view’ of responsibility scholarship in business and management studies.
The impetus for exploring ‘the long view’ arises from the relatively longstanding interest in responsibility topics that have been explored by business and management scholars over a number of decades. The nature of academic publishing, however, means that synergistic insights that can be drawn between business and management sub-communities might not be readily evident. Likewise, given the fast-moving pace of many responsibility thinking initiatives and a tendency for scholarship to emphasise novelty, longer arcs of change in how responsibility is articulated and negotiated might not be readily detected.
The workshop aims to address these dual concerns and create an opportunity for colleagues to interact across business and management subdisciplines as well as provide the context to explore the longer-term arcs in responsibility research and practice. The workshop format will include panel sessions as well as mini-keynote presentations alongside time for in-depth conversation and debate. We hope that by the end of the event that we may be able to say something collectively about the past, present and future directions of research in business and management studies.
The workshop will take place in Lancaster and is free to attend and will take place over two half days (likely from lunchtime to lunchtime). We ask that participants cover their travel and accommodation costs. We will host a dinner on the evening of September 5th to allow workshop conversations to progress in a less formal setting. Places are limited to 30 to ensure that conversations can be in depth and encompass all participants.
Please complete the expression of interest form by July 20, 2022 and return to pentlandcentre@lancaster.ac.uk
