33rd CSEAR International Congress, St Andrews, 22 – 24 August, 2023

This residential conference at The University of St. Andrews is a gathering of academics, practitioners and researchers who focus on the teaching, research, theory and practice of social, environmental and sustainability accounting and reporting. The spirit of the conference is interdisciplinary and so submissions are also invited from perspectives beyond accounting.

The event will be preceded by the 10th Emerging Scholars Colloquium which takes place on 21 August, 2023

Two types of submissions are encouraged this year: (1) full papers and (2) work in progress.
Authors submitting full papers are expected to provide a complete manuscript by the submission deadline, whereas authors submitting a work in progress are invited to submit a 300-word abstract. Please note that abstracts will be made available to all delegates prior to the conference. Full details can be found in the Call for Papers.

Plenary Speakers

We are delighted to announce that our  plenary conference keynote speaker is Juliane Reinecke Professor of Management Studies at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. The session will be chaired by Charles Cho, Professor of Sustainability Accounting and Erivan K. Haub Chair in Business & Sustainability at the Schulich School of Business, York University.

Richard Spencer, Director of Sustainability at ICAEW  and Bisola Joloko  from the University of Birmingham will speak at this year’s Practitioner’s Forum. The session will be chaired by Jan Bebbington, Director of the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business at Lancaster University.

Category 1: Full Residential Conference Package for Existing CSEAR Members only – £500 
The residential conference price includes conference registration for the Congress (22-24 August); dinner and accommodation on Tuesday 22 August; breakfast, dinner and accommodation on Wednesday 23 August and breakfast on Thursday 24 August.

Category 2: Day Delegate Conference Package for Existing CSEAR Members only – £385
The day delegate conference rate includes the conference registration for the Congress (22-24 August). The day delegate rate does NOT include accommodation, and does NOT include evening meals.

Category 3: Full Residential Conference Package for Non-CSEAR Members  – £745
The residential conference rate includes the conference registration for the Congress (22-24 August); dinner and accommodation on Tuesday 22 August; breakfast, dinner and accommodation on Wednesday 23 August and breakfast on Thursday 24 August.

Category 4: Day Delegate Conference Package for Non-CSEAR Members  – £585
The day delegate conference rate includes the conference registration for the Congress (22-24 August). The day delegate rate does NOT include accommodation, and does NOT include evening meals.

Category 5: Registration Rate for Online Presenters – £25
This rate is only available to presenters who have been accepted to present their paper online.

The following two categories are only available via invitation, a link will be forwarded on to those who are eligible.

Category 6: Emerging Scholars Colloquium (ESC) – £0/Partial bursary fee for the Congress – £320 
For students who have been awarded a FULL Bursary for the ESC. This includes dinner and accommodation on Sunday 20 August, breakfast and conference registration for the ESC on Monday 21 August. Attendees of the ESC have been awarded a partial bursary for the Congress, this rate includes dinner and accommodation on Monday 21 August; breakfast, dinner and accommodation on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 August and breakfast on Thursday 24 August. Also included is the registration fee for the Congress (22-24 August).

Category 7: Emerging Scholars Colloquium (ESC) and Congress Faculty members only – £500
Conference + ESC package is ONLY for faculty scholars participating at the Early Scholars Colloquium.  This package includes dinner and accommodation on Sunday August 20; breakfast, dinner and accommodation on Monday August 21; breakfast, dinner and accommodation on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 August and breakfast on Thursday 24 August. Also included is the  registration fee for the ESC (21 August) and the registration fee for the Congress (22-24 August).

There will be a drinks reception on the evening of Tuesday 22 August at the Wardlaw Museum

Additional Information:

  • The conference registration fee includes lunch and refreshments.
  • Cancellation terms and conditions – up to and including Friday 23 June 2023, a full refund minus a cancellation fee of £25.00. After this date registration fees are non refundable.
  • You can book additional nights accommodation (if this is not part of your conference package) on Monday 21 August and Thursday 24 August when you are registering for the Congress.
  • If you require accommodation for the evening of Sunday 20 August, you can book this by following the link for Agness Blackadder Halls, selecting the required dates and entering CSEARPRE23 in the promo box. Please add a note to your booking to advise that you are attending the CSEAR conference so they can match up your bookings.
  • Accommodation is in double en-suite (single occupancy) rooms in Agnes Blackadder Hall – click here for more information. If required, you can add an additional person to your room when registering for the conference.
